In celebration of Canada’s Victoria Day long weekend, Maple Sandbox is delighted to announce the promotion of Lynne Swanson (aka Blaze) to Chief Jingo for Canada.
This appointment was inspired by Roy Berg’s warning to the Finance Committee prior to Ms. Swanson’s testimony:
“This Committee is likely going to be aware of jingoistic, hyperbolic rhetoric admonishing Finance for ceding Canadian power, ceding sovereignty and also encouraging Canada to stand up to FATCA.”
STATEMENT HERE FROM OUTRAGED
“I will work hard to represent the interests of Sandboxers, Brockers and one million Canadians. I am honoured to accept this position,” said Ms. Swanson before swearing the following oath:
” I promise to faithfully fulfill my duties as Chief Jingo of Canada (CJC) by spewing hyperbolic rhetoric” about how FATCA is an affront to Canadian citizens, residents, laws, constitution and sovereignty.”
Regarding the US Homelander Roy Berg’s facile and self serving criticisms:
“….Roy Berg’s warning to the Finance Committee prior to Ms. Swanson’s testimony:
“This Committee is likely going to be aware of jingoistic, hyperbolic rhetoric admonishing Finance for ceding Canadian power, ceding sovereignty and also encouraging Canada to stand up to FATCA.””
Keep in mind that he is a US HOMELANDER. I find it disgusting that he can stand up in our Canadian Parliament and tell Canadians what they should think and do in the area of Canadian sovereignty. How long has he even been in Canada? He is a member of Democrats Abroad, and his ties and background as evidenced in the facts and circumstances of his bio are in the main to the US. He was also at one point appointed to a position by a Democrat Governor (see “Member – Board of Directors, Washington Economic Development Finance Authority, appointed by Washington Governor Christine Gregoire, 2006 to 2012” http://www.moodysgartner.com/credentials/roy_berg/ ).
So we’re supposed to take seriously a US Homelander who comes up here likely for business reasons, and who has the nerve to be publicly scolding Canadian citizens appearing in our own home, before our own Parliament, and urging those like Blaze not to defend Canadian sovereignty from the egregious extraterritorial US Homeland law and unwarranted economic sanctions that FATCA represents?
The Harper government should be very wary of support that comes from such an obviously vested interest. I wouldn’t call him exactly an objective disinterested party and it makes for bad optics for the Canadian government to take lessons on Canadian sovereignty from a US Homeland Tax lawyer.
