Murray Rankin has passed the NDP Anti-FATCA torch to Pierre-Luc Dusseault, MP for Sherbrooke and now NDP Revenue Critic.
I asked Murray Rankin to discuss FATCA with the Minister of Justice and ask the following question in the House of Commons:
Many Liberal MPs spoke out against FATCA. Some are now Cabinet Ministers. In a letter to Lynne Swanson on June 25, 2015, Mr. Trudeau said “the government of Canada has a responsibility to stand up for its citizens when foreign governments are encroaching on their rights. We believe the deal reached between Canada and the US is insufficient to protect affected Canadians.”
What will this government do to stand up for and protect Canadians when the United States is encroaching on their rights for FATCA?
Stephen forwarded a similar question.
Monday, Mr. Rankin’s Assistant advised me that the NDP Lead on FATCA is now Mr. Dusseault.
Yesterday, I spoke to Mr. Dusseault’s Assistant, Harun Jasarevic. He said both he and Mr. Dusseault are learning about FATCA. They had no knowledge of it until my e-mail was forwarded by Murray Rankin’s Assistant.
Consequently, Mr. Dusseault will not be raising this in the House of Commons before the Christmas break which begins the end of this month. The House does not reconvene until January 25.
I encourage others to contact Mr. Dusseault at Pierre-Luc.Dusseault@parl.gc.ca and his Assistant at: Pierre-Luc.Dusseault.A1@parl.gc.ca
I especially urge francophone Canadians to make contact. Mr Jasarevic said they are both working on learning English. I told him his English is far better than my French.
