Patriotic & Infuriated Canadian Gwen: "it's Appalling..They Don't Consider Us Real Canadians

In a Financial Post article, “patriotic” and “infuriated” Gwen says:

“It’s appalling that our government would agree to this..They don’t consider us real Canadians.”

She also points out the huge risks to renouncing for “Accidental Americans” and others:

“If I was to renounce, I’m exposing myself as a U.S. citizen. I’m stuck spinning my wheels.”
It’s Orwellian.”
 

Why do all these articles insist on calling us U.S, expats living in Canada or Americans living in Canada. Why is it so difficult for them to understand Gwen, Tricia and most of the rest of us are Canadian?!?

Angry Against America in London Ontario

Our Fourth of July Bash of FATCA and USA in London Ontario caught the attention of the local CTV station.They learned about the bash by one of my tweets and a link to Maple Sandbox.
It is fitting that the first public release and reading of the Maple Brock Sovereignty Alliance Declaration  of Independence happened in a London named by United Empire Loyalists for the London that was home to the King who caused the Revolutionary War for very similar reasons.
We were the lead story on the 6:00 news and will likely be on the 11:00 tonight.

Reporter Sean Irvine captured the story well. What would normally be a 90 second story was expanded to over three minutes.  Sean reported on our plans to launch legal action and stressed we need $$$ first.
He also profiled our Declaration of Independence.

Changes from the original Declaration are in bold. It was stunning how applicable the original words were to the tyranny being applied to us today.
American founders would be outraged at what their country is doing–and proud of what their descendants are doing to fight for our unalienable rights.

“My adopted country, how could it turn against us?” asks Dr. Stephen Kish in U.S. Expats Feel Sold Out by Tim Harper in the Toronto Star.

On this week when national holidays mean cross-border expressions of friendship and neighbourly bonhomie, the Stephen Harper Conservatives officially gave the U.S. the gift that will keep on giving.

They have allowed Uncle Sam to reach across the border and grab what they can from hundreds of thousands who have made Canada their home, are Canadian citizens and have pledged loyalty and affection to their adopted land.

It`s a pretty decent article, calling FATCA a typical bully-boy move by the U.S. and calling the Liberals and NDP meek. (Actually the NDP was pretty strong even though they were late to the game.
I would suggest the media was even weaker. Lots of news now, but we needed them years, months or weeks ago when they could have helped stop this nightmare before it ever reached this stage!

"Let Us Renew Our Determination, Our Courage and Our Strength" to Fight FATCA

There is a strong lesson for us to learn from Ronald Regan’s First Inaugural Address, January 20, 1981:

If we look to the answer as to why, for so many years, we achieved so much, prospered as no other people on Earth, it was because here, in this land, we unleashed the energy and individual genius of man to a greater extent than has ever been done before. Freedom and the dignity of the individual have been more available and assured here than in any other place on Earth. The price for this freedom at times has been high, but we have never been unwilling to pay that price.

It is no coincidence that our present troubles parallel and are proportionate to the intervention and intrusion in our lives that result from unnecessary and excessive growth of government. It is time for us to realize that we are too great a nation to limit ourselves to small dreams. We are not, as some would have us believe, doomed to an inevitable decline. I do not believe in a fate that will fall on us no matter what we do. I do believe in a fate that will fall on us if we do nothing. So, with all the creative energy at our command, let us begin an era of national renewal. Let us renew our determination, our courage, and our strength. And let us renew; our faith and our hope.

Most American Presidents from George Washington to George Bush would deplore what is happening to us.
Yikes!  Did I just imply something good about George Bush?!?
Well, here I go again, quoting a Republican. We need to do just as Regan said.  We need to “renew our determination, our courage and our strength.”Together we will overcome this “intervention and intrusion in our lives.”

It is estimated there are 7 million U.S. citizens living outside the United States. Some of these people don’t know that the U.S. may consider them to be citizens. The vast majority of these Americans abroad (according to U.S. law), are required to file tax returns and complete information reporting forms to the United States. Although “citizenship-based” taxation has existed for years, what is new is the enforcement.

Global News TV Reports on FATCA! Finally!

Finally, FATCA hits TV news!
Early this morning I caught a portion on Global News Calgary TV about FATCA, with short interviews/quotes by John Richardson and Arthur Cockfield and an accountant whose name I didn’t manage to catch.
However, I can’t find any reference to it on their website.I don’t know if the interview clips were from the previous interviews with BNN, or were new for Global News.
Anyone have any more information?

Nigel Green "Champions" ADCS Constitutional and Legal Challenge

We are getting some attention internationally. Nigel Green, CEO of deVere Group ($10 billion in assets around the world) “champions” our legal and constitutional challenge:

“I will also continue to champion the legal and constitutional challenges being prepared by the likes of American super-lawyer Jim Bopp Jnr and the Alliance for the Defence of Canadian Sovereignty.”

Globe and Mail Reports on ADCS Constitutional Challenge

Globe and Mail is reporting Group Plans Constitutional Challenge to FATCA.
John Richardson:

“The thing is an unbelievable joke,” said John C. Richardson, a Toronto lawyer who serves as ADCS co-chair. “… I am very confident in our legal position … , no ifs, ands or buts about it. In fact, if [C-31] is not a violation of the Charter, then the Charter doesn’t mean anything at all.”

Finance Canada’s reply were the standard talking points–and no comment about the Charter.
But Kate has something to say;

“I’ve never worked there, I’ve never been to school there, I’ve rarely travelled there,”said Kate, who is supporting ADCS and spoke on condition her last name would not be published. She said she feels betrayed by Canada.
“I would like other Canadians to realize that their rights and freedoms aren’t any safer than my rights and freedoms are. I haven’t done anything wrong. I was just born in the wrong country. And the Canadian government is having no problems just deciding that a foreign country can have my information. So if my rights and freedoms can be thrown under the bus, then all Canadians’ can be. That’s why I think people should be concerned about it.”
